Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a therapeutic treatment that consists of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body that include the muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, and connective tissue. The massage techniques that our Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) use influence three major body systems: the muscular, nervous and circulatory system. All three systems work together to help regain physical function and help relieve pain and/or stress that the body may be feeling.

Our RMTs are skilled at treating pain, tightness and spasm caused by injuries and/or muscle tension. Some of the techniques that they use can include pressure and compression, kneading and frictioning, and mobilizing the tissues of the body. Massage treatment by our experienced therapists accelerates the healing process by releasing tense and sore muscles, promoting relaxation, and improving circulation of the blood and lymphatic systems. The goal of massage treatment is to relieve stress in your muscles, to enable you to move more freely with less pain. If you are also receiving physiotherapy treatment, your massage therapist will work closely with your physiotherapist to ensure that both professionals are maximizing your progress. Our goal is to help you return to what is important to you as quickly as possible!

Conditions Treated by Massage Therapy

Some conditions that our RMTs treat include:

  • low back pain/sciatica
  • neck tension and pain

What Can I Expect During My Appointments?

Your privacy is important to us! Before beginning your massage, your RMT will obtain a full health history and your consent to begin treatment. You and your therapist will discuss what you feel comfortable with, either being clothed or fully or partially covered with sheets/blankets. Our registered massage therapists are trained professionals who understand that for you to receive the maximum benefit from your massage, your complete comfort and relaxation are of the utmost importance. Please remember that your privacy will always be respected, and that you are able to withdraw consent to be treated at any time if you do not feel comfortable. Our therapists will check in with you during your massage to ensure that the pressure they are applying is appropriate for you. If at any time you are uncomfortable with the treatment, your massage therapist will adjust your treatment accordingly.

Please remember that massage therapy is not covered under OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan), but many extended health benefit plans cover treatment from a Registered Massage Therapist as part of their coverage. Please consult your policy so that you are aware if there are limits to your massage benefits coverage.
