About GLA:D Canada

The GLA:D program is a 6-week education and exercise program delivered by our certified therapists for people with symptoms of hip or knee osteoarthritis (OA). The program consists of 2 education sessions and 12 group exercise sessions.

GLA:D was first developed in Denmark and then licensed for use in Canada, with more than 10,000 people having participated in the program. Multiple research studies have already been published demonstrating the benefits of the program, as well as indicating ways of improving management of OA.

Participants in the program learn about what OA is, treatment options, and how to manage their symptoms, as well as debunking common myths about OA. Over 12 exercise sessions, safe and effective exercises are introduced in a fun and interactive group setting. Participants learn about the benefits of exercise, overcoming barriers to physical activity and exercise, and how to control their movements to allow them to become more active.

It has been shown that participants experience reduced pain intensity, reduced use of pain killers, reduced need forsick leave, and general improvement in quality of life. The goal of the program is to reduce your symptoms so that you can do the things you want to do!
